A few months ago, when the sun was shining and the birds were chirping, we brought you 10 Ways to Stay (Productively) Entertained in the Summer. While the seasons may have changed since then, our need for stimulation has remained. In fact, it may have even amplified seeing as how dropping temperatures and snow-covered roads keep most of us stuck inside during the winter.
If you’re looking for something to do other than watch TV this season, we’ve got you covered!
- Rearrange your bedroom. Changing around your furniture can have a surprisingly big impact on your mood and liven up a space.
- Go through your wardrobe. Make today the day that you throw out (or even better, donate) that stack of shirts you haven’t worn in years.
- Clean out your computer. Is a slow computer or one that keeps freezing affecting your work? Before you head out in search of a new one, try clearing the one you have of any unnecessary apps, bookmarks, downloads, and games. You’ll be surprised by how much better it runs when it’s not cluttered with unnecessary files.
- Volunteer from the comfort of your home. Who says you need to travel to volunteer? Especially with the holidays coming up, spend some time making cards and mail them to sick children spending Christmas in a hospital.
- Learn how to knit. The only thing better than keeping yourself warm with a scarf is keeping yourself warm with a scarf that you created!
- Call a friend on the phone. Sure, you probably text all the time, but when was the last time you picked up a phone and called your friend?
- Join a book club. Thanks to today’s technology, you can even start a virtual book club or video chat to discuss your book when the snow gets really bad.
- Have friends over for a board game night. Especially in the event of a power outage, board games are a tech-free way to exercise your mind.
- Start an indoor garden. Missing the green, great outdoors? Grow a few small, easy-to-care-for plants on your windowsill.
- Embrace the cold. Sure, it may be cold out but don’t let that stop you from enjoying all the winter has to offer outside, like skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and snowball fights!
